Wilson Huang upholds his principles of ethos, pathos, and logos, intertwining them into the essays, stories, and speeches into narratives that resonate with his listeners. He takes any opportunity to shape his unique identity to create an impact on the world.

My Story

Growing up, Wilson transformed his monotonous childhood into a strong foundation for standing out and becoming a contributing global citizen. His childhood was a balance of creative and academic ‘pursuits’: He played the violin, guitar, ukulele, and piano while managing four Kumon lessons a week.

His commitment to music taught him the significance of self-expression and made him open-minded to different cultures and styles, which helped him appreciate diversity. Likewise, his dedication to academics established his gravitation to learning and problem-solving to navigate his perception of an interconnected world. He learnt that growth doesn’t always come from exciting adventures but comes from consistency, self-discipline, and a vested willingness and passion. The structured demands of his childhood, many of which are self-led, helped Wilson to learn to stand out, not just academically, but as an informed and empathetic global citizen prepared to make a difference.

Wilson has four years of debate experience, placing top 10 regionally and qualified as a top 10 team provincially in British Columbia. At debating nationals, he finished in the top 40. He has competed in numerous tournaments, reaching the novice semifinals at Harvard, earning 2nd place in the Vancouver regional round of the World Scholar’s Cup, and placing 9th at the global rounds in Xiamen. As a coach for over two years, he has trained 200+ students in debate and public speaking, and created a venture with over CAD 17,500 in revenue. Additionally, Wilson progressed to the World Junior Public Speaking Championships, where he achieved 2nd place. With extensive experience in discussion and coaching, Wilson has guided numerous students to excel in both competitive and academic settings, helping them successfully develop strong argumentation and public speaking skills.

Looking ahead, Wilson plans to maximise his access to cutting-edge research, a host of academic resources, and an abundance of professors who are experts in their fields. Wilson believes interactions and exposure should further his ability to think critically and analyze complex problems, making him a contributing global citizen. He believes that many students like himself want to make a positive impact, and he believes education can empower him to contribute meaningfully to society through leadership and advocacy. Subsequently, Wilson believes that attending a great university helps him to build a network of talented students, professors, and even notable alumni to open doors for opportunities and collaboration, laying the foundation for him to become a revered and successful entrepreneur.
